Now that Halloween is around the corner, you might be looking for healthier candy like organic candy or all natural candy. Halloween has been a little tricky for us since 99% of the candy my daughter receives is not anything I would normally keep in the house.

For this reason, I buy organic Halloween candy ahead of time and warn her that we will give away the candy she gets while trick-or-treating in exchange for my approved all natural candy. She is allowed to have 1 candy per day from the approved stash.

She has never given me any trouble, but I have explained how the candy we are giving away is not good for us so she is happy to oblige. Plus, the all-natural candy I have for her is just as good that she doesn’t miss the regular stuff.

Why choose all natural candy?

If you’re wondering what the difference even is, the organic candy usually has simple real food ingredients and doesn’t contain some of the questionable synthetic or harmful ingredients like food coloring, high fructose corn syrup, artificial ingredients, and allergens.

Food coloring has been linked to ADHD and other behavioral issues and is even banned in some countries.

And high fructose corn syrup is an unnecessary synthetic since you could just use organic sugar or other natural sweeteners.

Some people may choose all natural candy because they are looking for vegan, gluten-free, or nut-free candies. Many of these brands tick some of all of those boxes.

My favorite place to buy organic candies and all natural candies is from Vitacost because they really have the best prices and they are always offering coupons. But Vitacost doesn’t always have all the flavors so sometimes you have to order straight from the brand or try visiting a store like Sprouts. Alternatively, you can find all of these on Amazon.

Torie & Howard Organic Candies

Chewie Fruities

These candies remind me of Starburst but a much better version that also tastes better. This multi-pack has all their flavors including the sour and sweet. They have the same consistency as Starburst and are so much healthier!

Here are the ingredients: Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Cane Syrup, Organic Palm Shortening*, Ascorbic Acid, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, Organic Rice Extract. Colored with Beetroot Juice, Grape Color Extract, Organic Curcumin (Tumeric).

Hard Candy

Their organic hard candies have similar ingredients to the Chewie Fruities. The hard candies are small and come in tins or variety packs. My favorite flavor is the Blood Orange & Honey but they are all delicious.

Yum Earth Organic Candies

Yum Earth makes my daughter’s favorite lollipops. They also make licorice, sours, hard candies, gummy bears, and fruit snacks. They even have vitamin c lollipops which my daughter loves.

Yum Earth candies are vegan, gluten free, and nut free, making it a great allergy friendly option. They are colored with fruit juice, turmeric, and other natural ingredients.

Here is an example of their ingredients, from their gummies: Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Cane Sugar, Dextrose, Gelatin, Organic Tapioca Starch, White Grape Juice Concentrate, Citric Acid, Natural Flavors, Ascorbic Acid, Organic Sunflower Oil, Organic Carnauba Wax, Colored with Concentrate (Carrot, Blueberry, Purple Carrot), Saffron (Color), Annatto (Color).

UnREAL Chocolates & Candies

UnREAL makes my favorite healthy m&m replacement. They use organic, sustainable, and fair trade ingredients, are non-GMO, and contain some vegan and gluten-free products.

They make little chocolate gems and nut butter cups in different flavors. They also just introduced a coconut chocolate candy.

Here are the ingredients of their dark chocolate crispy gems: dark chocolate (*organic chocolate liquor, *organic cane sugar, *organic cocoa butter, organic vanilla), *organic cane sugar, organic quinoa crisp, colored with (beetroot juice, carrot juice, hibiscus juice, annatto extract, turmeric extract, red cabbage juice), tapioca syrup, sugar, gum acacia, vanilla extract, carnauba wax.

OCHO Chocolates

OCHO makes just a few chocolates but they are good! My favorite is the chocolate coconut minis. It’s so good I end up eating the whole bag!

OCHO chocolates are organic and gluten-free, and some of the products are vegan. They also use fair-trade chocolate.

Here are the ingredients to their dark chocolate coconut bar: *DARK CHOCOLATE (*^CACAO BEANS, *EVAPORATED CANE SUGAR, *^COCOA BUTTER, SUNFLOWER LECITHIN), *TAPIOCA SYRUP, *COCONUT, *SUGAR (*CANE SUGAR, *TAPIOCA STARCH), WATER, SEA SALT, *SOY LECITHIN, AND *VANILLA EXTRACT.

Little Secrets Dark Chocolate Candies

These chocolates are just dangerous. I can never stop eating when I open a bag!

Little Secrets makes dark chocolate candies using fair trade chocolate and fruit and vegetable extracts to color them. They are also partially non-GMO certified and currently in the process of becoming fully non-GMO certified. They are also kosher, and some of the products are gluten-free.

Their peanut butter dark chocolate gems are the best alternative to peanut butter m&m’s. They are seriously addicting!

Here are the ingredients to the peanut butter dark chocolate gems: Dark Chocolate (Fair Trade Certified™ Unsweetened Chocolate, Fair Trade Certified™ Sugar, Fair Trade Certified™ Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin [An Emulsifier], Fair Trade Certified™ Natural Vanilla Extract), Peanut Flavored Coating (Sugar, Palm Kernel Oil*, Partially Defatted Peanut Flour, Nonfat Dry Milk, Peanut Oil, Salt, Soy Lecithin [An Emulsifier]), Sugar, Palm Kernel Oil*, Peanut Butter (Peanuts), Less Than 1% of Tapioca Syrup, Coloring (Includes Vegetable Juice, Turmeric Oleoresin), Salt, Gum Acacia, Carnauba Wax, Soy Lecithin. *Sustainably Sourced Palm Kernel Oil

Justin’s Nut Butter Cups

You probably know Justin’s because of all the nut butters but they also make delicious nut butter cups. My favorite is their mini cups because it is just the right serving, just like a Reese’s butter cup. Justin’s is certified organic, gluten-free, and kosher.

Here are the ingredients: organic dark chocolate (organic evaporated cane sugar, organic cacao beans, organic cocoa butter, organic soya lecithin [emulsifier]), organic peanuts, organic cane sugar, peanut flour, organic palm oil, organic vanilla powder (organic vanilla extract, organic vanilla ground, organic vanilla absolute), sea salt, organic soy lecithin

These are all my favorite organic and all natural candies, but there are more brands out there like these.

Now you may have noticed that these are not priced like the more popular brands. I see this as a good way to help moderate how much we eat. Because they are pricier, I don’t eat more than I should to make them last. It’s a great lesson for kids too, and helps even more if you explain how the food we eat affects us so it’s important not to over eat or eat junk food.
