OSEA Skincare Review – Plant-Based Natural & Organic Skincare

OSEA, pronounced OH-SEE-YAH, is a female-founded family run skincare business based out of Malibu. All their products are nontoxic, vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and GMO-free. They use a proprietary seaweed trio which is USDA certified organic and is sourced from the pristine waters of Patagonia. This all sounds amazing, right?

OSEA Skincare kindly sent me a few of their products: the Clarifying Set and an Ocean Cleansing Milk. This set includes a travel size Ocean Cleansing Mudd (1 fl oz), Sea Minerals Mist (1 fl oz), Essential Corrective Complex (1/8 fl oz) & Blemish Balm (1/4 fl oz). I have also tried out their Atmosphere Protection Cream, Ocean Cleanser, and Essential Hydrating Oil that I received in previous Petit Vour boxes.

To really test this line, I stopped using my other skincare products for a few weeks with the exception of another cream because my skin is pretty dry and I needed more moisture.

Ocean Cleansing Milk Review

This soothing, hydrating, gentle creamy cleanser for dry, sensitive skin was my favorite. Formulated with nature’s best skin soothers like Water Lily extract, this creamy cleanser gently removes surface impurities and diminishes the appearance of redness and surface irritation. It leaves my skin looking and feeling soft and hydrated. It removes my makeup and does not leave any residue nor was it oily. I also love that it has no scent (great for sensitive skin).

If you have acne, this cleanser would be ideal if your skin also leans towards being dry or sensitive. If you have oily skin, try the Ocean Cleansing Mudd (read about this product below).

Ocean Cleanser Review

This cleanser is not as gentle as the Ocean Cleansing Milk and would work for all skin types. It’s actually one of thier most popular products! It removes impurities while protecting skin’s natural moisture barrier, and is formulated with a plant-based probiotic and pH balanced.

This cleanser is creamy but lathers a bit and has exfoliating lactic acid for radiant skin. It has a nice light, citrus scent and does a great job of cleansing. It removes all my makeup easily. It doesn’t leave my skin as soft and hydrated as the Ocean Cleansing Milk but I still really like this cleanser. It wasn’t stripping and I could use it daily without a problem.

The Sea Minerals Mist Review

Another favorite, because it’s so refreshing and hydrating. This mineral mist perfect for normal, combination, oily, blemish-prone skin
types and skin experiencing acute irritation and dehydration from sun exposure. Organic Patagonian Seaweed, Dead Sea Salt, and Aloe Vera neutralize surface impurities and diminish the appearance of inflammation and redness on the surface of the skin.

A spritz of this adds instant hydration which most people need and is soothing. I spray it on after cleansing, before my moisturizer. I also like to use it as a makeup setter. This mist has no scent, which I actually like, and has no residue.

The Blemish Balm Review

A light, non-greasy moisturizer for oily and/or blemish-prone skin that reduces the appearance of blemishes and oily shine. It hydrates, minimizes breakouts, and eradicates surface impurities without clogging pores, leaving your skin feeling incredibly clean and fresh.

I really like this moisturizer. It smells so good and is so calming on the skin. My skin drinks it up and it makes a significant difference to my acne, preventing the usually hormonal outbreaks I tend to get. The cream is non-oily, almost mattifying, and I even use it on my chest and shoulders to help with body acne. This is probably one of the most effective lotions for acne I have ever used. I do need to layer another oil or moisturizer over this since my skin is dry.

The Essential Corrective Complex

I love these spot treatment types of products. You just roll it over your acne and massage it in. This one smells wonderful and is really effective. It can be used daily to treat breakouts and is formulated with just botanicals and essential oils to help reduce the appearance of oily shine and blemishes.

I have used products like this before so I know for it to be most effective I have to apply it at the onset of a pimple. It did prevent them from getting all huge and painful, and generally, they were gone within a day or two. With this product, a little goes a long way. Also note that it is oil based, so if you prefer not to use oils then you would not like this product.

Essential Hydrating Oil Review

This facial oil is an anti-aging oil to plump skin, smooth fine lines, and hydrate. Since my skin is dry I really enjoyed using this facial oil. It comes in a small roller bottle just like the acne spot treatment.

The trick to using facial oils and not feeling like an oil slick is to apply a small amount to damp skin. So I spray the Sea Minerals Mist all over my face then apply the Essential Hydrating Oil by rolling it over a few spots on my face, then massage it in. It absorbs quickly this way and leaves a silky finish. OSEA recommends you layer your moisturizer over this, like the Atmosphere Protection Cream or Blemish Balm, which I found works really well.

It has a nice geranium scent, which I like but some people don’t. You only need 2-3 drops so it lasts a while. I find it layers really well with other products and keeps my skin moisturized all day.

The Ocean Cleansing Mudd Review

This cleanser is specifically for oily, blemish-prone, and congested skin. It can be used morning and night, or 2-4 times per week as needed to help balance excess oil. It has peppermint and tea tree essential oils, mixed in a base of Macrocystis Seaweed Extract (the kind of seaweed you typically see on walks on the beach) which is rich in iodine.

I use this about once a week, sometimes twice when I have hormonal breakouts.  It has a nice cooling sensation on the skin and like the cleansing milk is not oily and leaves no residue. Your skin really feels fresh and invigorated after using this. The scent at first threw me off because it literally smelled like the sea, but with a hint of mint, however, I don’t mind earthy scents. This really helps to remove oil so this would be an excellent product for anyone with oily skin. I found it too drying to use on a regular basis.

Atmosphere Protection Cream Review

This lightweight moisturizer provides barrier protection against extreme climates, wind and air pollution. Infused with antioxidant rich oils and organic seaweed firm skin, to leave skin with a silky finish.

This moisturizer really surprised me. It’s a thin lotion but really moisturizes well leaving a silky matte finish which makes it great as a primer. If I needed more moisture I could layer an oil on top but usually this did the trick. It has a nice fresh scent from the essential oils but wasn’t strong. The bottle lasted me a really long time so the price is worth it. I found that it layered well under all my makeup, as well as other skincare products.

Hyaluronic Sea Serum Review

This serum is a facial oil formulated to add a burst of hydration for all skin types. It visibly improves the signs of aging and brightens skin. It’s unique because it’s formulated with 3 different organic seaweeds and multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid.

My dry skin loves hyaluronic acid so I knew I would really enjoy this serum. It absorbs very quickly and is not sticky or oily. It’s also unscented.

Of all the hyaluronic acid serums I have tried this one is my favorite because of the texture and how easily it absorbs. I love to layer it under the Atmosphere Protection Cream.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really enjoyed all the products I tried. Their formulations are nice, the packaging is beautiful, and the products are very effective. Nothing irritated my skin or made me break out. In fact, my skin was clear and nourished while using their line. They have a few travel sizes and travel kits which include trial sizes to help you try a few products before committing to larger more costly products.

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, I suggest going with the Clarifying Set. For normal to combination skin, try the Balancing Set. For sensitive or dry skin, try the Soothing Set. If you have mature skin, try the Age-Defying Set.
